Celebrating 20 Years with Nele Nerut!

Our Managing Director in Estonia, Nele, is celebrating 20 years with Kim Johansen Transport Group

The Estonian office opened in 2004 as one of our first branches outside Scandinavia, following our expansion to France in 2002. Nele has been with us almost from the very beginning and has been a driving force in leading our Estonian operations ever since. We sat down with her to talk about her journey through two decades of growth, change, and commitment.

When Nele joined 20 years ago, both the company and the transport industry were very different. "We were smaller and less complex back then," Nele recalls. "Since then, we've experienced significant growth, especially in terms of technology, processes, and ways of working."

She particularly highlights the pace at which things move today and the constant learning and adaptation required to keep up. The company has become more agile, data-driven, and customer-focused, with a much stronger emphasis on collaboration across teams and regions.

People and culture as the driving force

So what has kept Nele motivated throughout two decades? "It's the people and the company culture," she says without hesitation. "There is a strong sense of trust, collaboration, and support for both personal and professional growth."

Nele has had the opportunity to evolve in her role, take on new challenges, and grow alongside the company. "Feeling valued and knowing that my contributions make a real impact has been a key source of long-term motivation."

Special proud moments

When we ask Nele to highlight particular moments, she mentions a challenging project with a tight deadline where the team came together and exceeded expectations. But her greatest pride lies elsewhere: "Seeing the growth and success of people I've worked with over the years – watching team members develop into confident professionals and leaders – has been one of the most rewarding parts of my journey."

Her own leadership style has been shaped by the very people she has worked with. "Working with diverse teams has taught me the value of listening, trust, and empowerment," she explains. "My colleagues have challenged my thinking, supported my development, and helped me become a more empathetic and collaborative leader. I've learned that sustainable success is built through teamwork rather than individual effort."

Advice for future colleagues

With 20 years of experience behind her, Nele has clear advice for new colleagues: "Stay curious, ask questions, and don't be afraid to make mistakes. Take advantage of learning opportunities and build strong relationships with the people around you. If you approach your work with openness, commitment, and a willingness to grow, opportunities will naturally follow over time."

From all of us at Kim Johansen Transport: Congratulations on your 20 years, Nele!
Thank you for your dedication, commitment, and valuable contribution to our shared journey.
